Do US Internment Camps Really Exist?

Unlike a lot of conspiracy theories floating around on the Internet this one appears to be well grounded in truth.  There is an enormous amount of evidence that support the fact that the camps exist and really no denial by the government.  So the question quickly changes from ‘Do they exist?’ to ‘why?’  Why does the government need to have internment camps?

Interment camps are not without precedent in US history.  During World War II, out of fear, our government rounded up nearly 110,000 Japanese people and placed them in camps around the country.  That period in history is looked upon as a dark moment in our past.  Why would we repeat a past mistake?

Although the government has always been prone to the demonization of certain groups, there hadn’t been much focus on a return to government prison camps until REX 84 (Readiness Exercise 1984) in 1984.  That exercise marked a distinct return to the willingness of the US government to imprison its citizens.  It shows that they are ready, willing and able to return to citizen internment.

Rex 84 Camp

REX 84 Camp

Mainstream media did have some coverage of REX 84 during the late 80s, but since then all is quiet on the major media front.  The topic remains a focus of many conspiracy related websites and news sources.  It is this coverage that has kept the topic alive on the internet, but moved it into the arena of wild conspiracy.

Since REX 84, the campaign to create new internment camps and maintain existing camps has continued.  Originally managed by US military and intelligence organizations, control of this has now passed to NORTHCOM.  NORTHCOM is a joint military unit that covers the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

US citizens once had the protection of the Posse Comitatus Act, which prevented the use of the US military on it’s own citizens.  Now that protection has been removed by two changes.  First the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which is vigorously being fought from many directions.  The act basically allows that almost anyone can be deemed an enemy combatant, subject to be detained indefinitely.  Second is the transfer of control of certain parts of the military to super-national organizations.  NORTHCOM like NORAD is a super-national military organization and is in control of Mexico, Canada, and CONUS, no pun intended, which is the continental United States.

Since REX 84, work has continued on internment camps.  Most recently a contract was awarded to a Halliburton company, KBR.  The contract, awarded in 2006, allows for the creation of new camps that can hold up to 400,000 people.  This is in addition to the many camps that already exist.  The stated reason for the new camps is “an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs”.  The press release remains in the KBR archive, it can be seen here.

Since our government has been lacking in the control of illegal immigration or any other type of immigration for that matter, we are left with the ominous line “support the rapid development of new programs”.  It is perhaps the most disturbing part of the press release.  What are these new programs?  How rapid is the development?  Maybe we don’t even want to know the answers to these questions.

These types of programs have spanned several administrations, both Democratic and Republican.  They come from within the depths of government and are likely born out of a sense of self preservation by the government.  In history, we have seen this type of behavior before most prominently, in Germany, the Soviet Union, and China.  In the past our government and citizens frowned on things like this.

Past, future presidents

So yes, the camps do exist.  They are there.  They’re waiting to be used.  But the big question, ‘Why?’, remains unanswered.  Except for the vague stated reason, “support the rapid development of new programs”.  Maybe it is a good idea to keep a watchful eye on the rapid development of new programs.

  1. Wil Says:

This isnt from the democrats. They would stop it.

  2. beedogs Says:

that would imply bill clinton was a republican. which isn’t really far from the truth.

  3. Thatswhyhiswifelost Says:

Yes, Bill Clinton was a essentially Republican president. It’s fair to point out though that this was largely due to the Republican dominated congress during his tenure.

Having said that, his record on the drug war was truly a disgrace for which he along must bear the blame and his sad complicity in hollowing out welfare was sickening and again nobody but Clinton can be blamed for this.

  4. Magpie Says:

    Bill Clinton was Republican lite.

  5. dave Says:

    LOL
FYI Republicans and Democrats work for the same people… WAKE UP

  6. Chaos Motor Says:

Wil, that is hopelessly foolish. How much partisan “politics” do you have to watch before you realize both sides are playing for the same team? The Dems are no better than the Repubs. They all serve the same master. Only when the common public realizes that the Dems WON’T stop anything because the Dems are mutually responsible for whatever it is, right alongside the Repubs, only then will we see any progress. As it is, the idea that “the Dems will/would stop it!” is an utterly foolish notion. Pray tell, what exactly have the Dems stopped? As far as I can see, the only thing the Dems HAVE stopped is impeachment, which is also the only thing that could help us right now.

  7. Defektiv Says:

Isn’t it abundantly clear by now, in our ages of ever increasing information and intellect, that what we have known as “President” is little more than a ceremonial title. Granted, he/she has powers over that of other ceremonial leaders, but they are completely controlled by lobbying interests. 100% through and through, bought and paid for.

Our politicians are used as stupid little puppets for our amusement. Not because we do not have any power, but because we won’t use our power as people as long as we follow suit to this idea that repubs and demos are fighting for control and one of them will do anything to change this place for the better. Not without ulterior motive being profits for their corporate masters.

  8. Andy Says:

The reason why they are there, most likely, is because someone is being paid to build and maintain them. I’m sure someone will get to use them eventually tho. But today its profit.

  9. Christopher Parker Says:

Come on guys, this is pretty thin evidence. IF they exist, then WHERE? And is anybody in them? The existence of contract with Halibertan only proves they were able to get some more money out of the spigot, not anything about the camps.

Mind you, I’m sure camps could be created in a hurry if someone DID decide to - for all sorts of reasons, including some perfectly reasonable. For example as an evacuation center in the case of a weather or earthquake emergency.

There’s enough out there in plain view that needs our positive contribution without speculating on conspiracy theories. Talk less and learn more, please!

  10. On the Empire Grind Says:

All conspiracy aside, I doubt these camps will ever be used except as a reminder of our failure to get the current administration out of power and of the Military Industrial Complex’s power over spending. People said the same things about building bigger nukes, that just because we had them we would use them. And while the prospect of these camps does send my imagination running wild, I can hardly see the advantage of interring hundreds of thousands of working and earning Americans. You have to remember, the bottom line here is the almighty dollar, not some diabolical plan to eradicate the populous. At least thats my opinion.

  11. apeweek Says:

How is this speculation? - There’s one near me in Michigan. Nobody is in them. They are for ‘future use’, whatever that is.

There’s a picture at the top of this page. Search around, you’ll find pictures of other camps in other states. Read some of the links above - one of them is from KBR’s own website. Nobody is hiding this. The question is, what are they for?

  12. SIGH Says:

I can only hope, these camps are for conspiracy theorists and “Big Brother” is in route to collect the idiots who posted this garbage.

  13. david Says:

Ha! It’s always fun to watch conspiracists “sound the alarm” about stupid stuff like this.

  14. dm Says:

So where are the camps again? I seemed to have missed that bit

  15. americas changing Says:

I can’t imagine that anyone doesn’t see the changes that are taking place in this country in the name of security instead of in the name of Freedom.

The camps do exist and as someone mentioned they may be there in case of a natural disaster. If that’s the case it’s already been covered with Executive Order 12919 witch allows the President to declare martial law in the case of a natural disaster. Don’t forget that during Katrina the military did disarm civilians. The next step would be to place them in a camps. At least thats how it appears to me.

Its funny this type of thing has happened in the past and it currently happens in other countries but if someone mentions it could happen here, people have been brainwashed to start screaming conspiracy theorist go get your tin hat.

The fact is, many things that are currently accepted as normal everyday America use to be a conspiracy theory.

  18. nikolai Says:

The camps EXIST. BELIEVE IT. If you don’t think so RESEARCH IT.

Also do a web search on tackamarks / tackmarks and READ. Tackamarks
are secret markings on road signs that are universally marked for all U.N. troops. U.N. TROOPS! Why would we want/need U.N. TROOPS IN THE U.S.???

Or, keep your heads in the sand until you are IN one of these f*cking camps

  19. Larry Says:

But the guy is referencing a map from WWII

  20. Mentifex Says:

When the order goes out to attack Iran, anyone who protests or resists may end up in one of the camps — along with tens of thousands of Americans already on the lists of persons to be rounded up.

  21. Leviticus Says:

The camps are f*ckin everywhere, over 80 in the country. About four of them around Salt Lake City, one in New York, several in Montana and a few in Alaska that can hold up to two million people. Just google FEMA camps. Wake up sheeple !

  23. Paytriot Says:

I contend that this may have something to do with the fact that we are currently at the greatest Plutocratic gap in the history of our country (Including before during and after the depression years, now the second greatest plutocratic gap in US history) A lot of people have been hinting around the right path in earlier posts when talking of the fact that the repubs and dems work for the same persons, Corporations and Plutocrats. What is the Government going to do when We the People rise up and demand change? I propose that internment camps will be a big part of their solution…..

  24. g Says:

lol, the democrats and the republicans only respond to the new world order, unfortunately not a theory either

  25. Barbaricfellow Says:

the 600+ concentration camp are real, the “difference” between the democrats and the republican not, it only exist on purposely set issue like abortion, gay marriage and so forth…

    Rockefeller said decades ago:

“What we need is two almost identical political parties ,so we can continue our policies no matter the outcome of the elections”

That’s why when Bush aske’s 106 billion from the “democratic” leadership he gets 165 billion…

  26. Alan Says:

Get a grip people. There are no camps — meaning ready to be filled with people camps. I have personally been to one of these so-called camps — Amache, located near Granada, Colo., Do you know what’s there? NOTHING. Well, there is a cemetery, and some signs indicating what the old foundations used to be. You don’t trust me? Look for yourself here: (http://www.geospectra.net/kite/amache/amache.htm)
The only maintenance being done is the lawn being mowed at the cemetery. The city/county may grade the road every couple of years so the tourists can drive through. — Yes there is a big PADLOCK on the front gate (a chain), but you can borrow the key at the Granada city hall — or just step over it.
There are no guard towers. Your local high school football field is more likely to be used as a new-order internment “camp,” than Amache.
This is a nice x-Files story, but reality?? Not even close.

  27. roybertito Says:

Conspiracy is the wrong word to apply to a line of research.
alan, just because Fox doesnt tell you whats going on doesnt mean there isnt something happening.
There is little to no debate about these camps anymore, only from nay-sayers (motivation unknown) such as yourself……
Im in europe so hopefully we won’t be rounded up, the EU is to disparate and ancient a place for such cohesive action to be successful.
The U.S. on the other hand, as many above pointed out, is a one party system. Period. They have just created a rather fantastic illusion, one befitting the TV generation, and the reality of whats right at your nose (with evidence abounding) is therefore largely ignored.
Oh no, Bill O’ Reilly might tell me to shut up if i disagree……..
Even that mupped Michael Moore helps the system, perpetuating the myht that Bush is nothing but a stupid nonce incapable of logical thought. While his intelligence is no doubt less than adequate for a president, regardless, he is very much aware of his actions and part of wider ideological groups whom he masterfully fronts.
    Left, right !!!
    Ha ha ha ha !!!1
These things don’t exist in Amwerica, read some European history for god sake and dont be so home-centric…..this will give you perspective.

This is not the X-Files Alan, sadly………its your country in fact !

Now, really, how many times have YOU been locked up in an internment camp? Has your freedom in any way been limited by being imprisoned in a citizen internment camp?

    :)
    {Sorry, I couldn’t resist giving the preview the common response given by zero-insight bloggers (or paid shills, perhaps) when they try to challenge discussions about any rights infringements made by the govt.}

Here’s the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans:
the Republicans say, “Yeah, I’m a whore, you got a problem with that?”
the Democrats say, “Yeah, I’m a whore, but I’m kind of ashamed…”

That’s it. Both whores, both for sale to the highest bidder. Yes, there are a few exceptions (Russ Feingold and Dennis Kucinich come to mind), but the leadership of both parties are working for their clients. And their clients ain’t us.

STOP the silly “my party is good, that party sucks” nonsense! Parties are only another means towards the end.(Our end) We allow these clowns to divide us further and further by party, color, age, region, and any other grouping until we’re one crazy fool typing on his computer. (At least I’m not shopping!) One more way to feel that “We” are the good guys and “They” eat babies, one more way to further divide the American people which sadly we keep playing along with. Those people are your fellow citizens, and whether we all agree on anything (We don’t) we must return to a baseline of acting as though the others are sentient beings worthy of life, and their opinion, while it sucks, might be valid. The only THEY are those who control it all in America and around the world. If we keep playing these idiotic games of us vs. us, WE Will lose. Smitthead
